Sony WF-1000XM4 Review: Could This Be A Historic Moment For Sony?
Sony has been a big player in the truly wireless earbud market with its WF-1000X line of earbuds. The WF-1000XM3 was a great product from the company before. It had great noise cancellation, good sound quality, and more. Apple AirPods Pro and Bose QuietComfort are better headphones than these earbuds, but they aren’t as good as these other headphones. Now, Sony has finally developed a good replacement for the WF-1000XM3 earbuds. The new ones are called the Sony WF-1000XM4.
These Sony earbuds have a new design and a lot of new features, like a new audio processor and more. This isn’t all, though. The company has also prepared a new type of ear tip that can change how people think about ear tips. In addition, the wireless earbuds come with features like ambient sound control and noise-canceling and support for high-resolution audio. This makes them one of the best premium wireless earbuds on the market. But aren’t these good? What do I think of the TWS?
Suitability and Design
The Sony WF-1000XM4 comes in a unique package. It’s not shiny, but it’s green. The company has replaced the glossy box with packaging made of paper that is made from paper that has been used before. Still, it doesn’t make you feel like you’re getting a pair of high-end wireless headphones. The retail box is small and comes with two ear tips, a USB cable for charging, and a fast start guide to take you up and to run right away.
You also get a small, black charging case that holds the Sony WF-1000XM4. The case is about 40% smaller than the Sony WF-1000XM3, its predecessor. Flip it open, and you’ll see a new set of earbuds inside of it. The earbuds have a matte finish that makes them look like they’re from a high-end store. Touching the round-shaped element at the back can do different things. A small golden circle on the back points to the whole design’s aesthetics.
The ear tips were impressive, like how well they worked. The foam-based ear tips are a new idea, but they are also very soft and cushiony. The ear tips fit perfectly and are very comfortable to wear for a long time. At first, you have to get used to it. Before you put the ear tips in your ears, pinch them. Use the Headphones Connect app to ensure your ears are fully sealed with the ear tips (more on this later).
A touch-sensitive part can be found on both of the earbuds. The matte part also comes with some built-in functions. However, you can change it through the app. In this example, a single tap on the left earbud will switch between active noise cancellation and ambient mode. This is how it works: In the same way, a single tap on the right earbud will stop the music, and double-tap or triple-tap to move to the next or previous track. For people who like to do sports, the IPX4 water resistance makes them splash-proof and sweat-proof. Overall, the Sony WF-1000XM4 is a strong pair of earbuds that are very comfortable to wear.
Connectivity, Application, and Specifications
People who have Android or iOS devices can easily connect the TWS to them. It can also be quickly paired with Android and Windows. Even so, you need to download the Headphones Connect app to use all of the features. The app can be computerized from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Sometimes you have computed it, and you need to set up the earbuds to work with it. Setting up takes a while because you have to follow many different steps.
When you look at the top, you can see how much battery power each earbud has and how much battery power the case has. Then, too, you see Adaptive Sound Control. The feature senses what you do and where you go and changes the headphones settings accordingly. You can think of it with this: if you’re at home, it will say “Staying.” This isn’t the only thing you can do. You can also walk, run, or take the train.
In the Sound menu, you can change different things. It’s up to the person to choose whether or not to turn on noise-canceling and Speak-to-Chat. The one that does this automatically stops the music when you say a word. Because of this, I found the sensitivity too high for my taste. There were times when someone coughed or hummed, and the music had to stop. So, if you like to do karaoke at the last minute, you might want to turn off this feature. You’ll be annoyed if you don’t, and I’ve been there.
You can also play about with the Equalizer settings in the Sound menu, where you find them. By default, the company has many different presets that you can choose from, like Excited, Mellow, Relaxed, Vocal, Treble Boost, Bass Boost, Speech, Custom, and Manual. That’s not all: We also have a System tab that lets you change how the touch sensor works and do more. However, the app is easy to use and has a lot of good options for the Sony WF-1000XM4.
Sound and ANC
The best truly wireless earbuds on the market right now is the Sony WF-1000XM4 from Sony. The earbuds have high-quality bass, and the clarity of low-frequency sounds is also very good. This song was a real treat to listen to because you could feel the bass, and the bass notes were clean when they started and stopped.
The earbuds also did a good job with the mids to hear the different layers of the music with good clarity. The sound of the piano, guitar, and drums in Elton John’s Rocket Man was very clear to us when we were listening to it. In my opinion, the whole thing was very good. Voices were clear and didn’t make me feel like I was getting pinched, even when they were at their loudest setting.
However, if you wear it while walking down the street, you’ll notice a few small changes. Even though it doesn’t completely block out loud noises like buses or car horns, it does cut them down to a certain point. The company has also added Ambient Mode to hear the sounds in the background. It’s also possible to change the ambient sound level from the Headphones Connect app.
Battery Life and Microphone Quality
I thought the Sony WF-1000XM4 was a little disappointing. It has a good microphone, but I thought it was a little disappointing. When you buy microphones, they come with a feature that makes the vocals sound better and cuts out the noise from the rest of the room. It is good for indoor use but not very good for outdoor use. Wind or traffic sounds were getting picked up by the earbuds while talking on the phone. The vocals were a little muffled, so I had to turn the volume down slightly. Other people on the call said that the voice wasn’t very good.
TWS does a great job regarding how long it takes to charge the battery. The company says that you can listen to music for 12 hours with ANC off. You can listen to a song for about 8 hours with ANC on. With ANC turned off, I found that the wireless earbuds could last for about 7 hours. This is good because it’s a method that will last longer. The case also comes with two full charges. You can wirelessly charge your phone while it’s in this case! That’s pretty useful! In addition, a five-minute charge can play music for almost an hour.
Is It Worth Purchasing Sony’s WF-1000XM4 Wireless Earbuds?
The Sony WF-1000XM4 can help bring the company back up to the top again in the audio field. The earbuds have a unique design that helps keep noise out. One of the best premium wireless earbuds on the market has great features and sound quality.
The battery life is also very nice, and it lasts very long. Despite this, the microphone was a bit of a letdown. It didn’t sound as good as other high-end earbuds, like Apple AirPods Pro or Bose Quiet Comfort. Besides, you get some great sound and battery life and good noise blocking, which makes this a good pair of earbuds to think about.
